Sedation Options

Our Ottawa dentist offers oral sedation and nitrous oxide for patients who are experiencing anxiety about their next dental visit.

Why are people anxious about the dentist?

If you are afraid of dentists, you're not alone.  People who go regularly to the dentist can still feel anxious about their upcoming dental visits. Fear is one of the biggest reason people avoid dentists.

If you experience anxiety about going to the dentist, or have an extensive appointment coming up, your dentist may recommend conscious sedation.  Sedation can help you relax during your appointment, easing the anxiety associated with your dental procedure.

Nitrous Oxide

What is nitrous oxide?

Also known as “laughing gas”, you will feel calmer after a few breaths of nitrous oxide.

Who is a candidate for nitrous oxide?

Nitrous oxide is a good option for patients who feel apprehensive about their dental appointment.

Do I need to arrange for transportation home?

Patients are safe to drive themselves home after this sedation option is administered since the effects of the gas are gone, after a few simple breaths of air.

Oral Sedation

What is oral sedation?

Oral medication can be easily administered in the form of liquid or pills.

When is this sedation administered?

Oral sedatives can be taken the night before to help you sleep, and taken one hour before your appointment to reduce anxiety during any treatment.

Can I drive home after my appointment?

We ask that you arrange a ride for yourself when you have oral sedation.

Ask if sedation is an option for your treatment. Please come in to visit our dentists to learn more about sedation in Ottawa.
